NEW POLL: Most Brits back junior doctor strikes

More than two thirds of voters support strike action as junior doctors began a six-day walkout over pay, a new poll shows.

A total of 68% of Brits say they back the rights of workers to take strike action, with only 18% saying they don’t support the right to strike and 13% said they don’t know.

In addition, 68% of people said they don’t think the Government has done “all it can” to avoid the strikes, with only 18% believing it had and 14% didn’t know.

As for union bosses, more than half (51%) of voters felt they hadn’t done all they could to avoid the strikes while 26% said they had and 23% didn’t know.

Finally, more than half of Brits (54%) said they think public sector workers were striking out of necessity with 29% saying the strikes were about greed and only 17% said they didn’t know.

In our regular weekly voter intention trackers, Labour stretched its lead over the Conservatives by five points to 22 while the Prime Minister’s net approval plunged seven points to –27.
